T H E O R B I T FA N PAG E by C A R A C OT H A M Jesus: “Can you bring me anything?” Us: “It’s not enough.” Jesus: “It’s enough for me.”

Dallas Jenkins: “It’s not our job to feed the 5000. Only to provide the loaves and fish.”

The story we have heard anew, resurrected in application, since before one word of the script was written for Season 1, came from a Divine message, via Amanda Jarvis Jenkins and then a Facebook friend, Alex, communicated via messenger to Dallas on a night of sorrow and “failure.” Many of us have heard this story countless times and have absorbed this oft repeated application that keeps seeping deeper into our consciousness. It teaches us impossible math.

This math has been life changing for many. It has been for me, and yet even as I was stumped with the task of doing this deep dive….doing it justice, I totally forgot. I struggled so to take in everything…spiritually, musically, all the layers of significance and application. I felt unworthy.

So I stressed. Until I remembered. I’m just supposed to bring what I have.

I put it down and prayed. Then a poet prophet sent me a song. And that song said, “don’t you recognize the reason that you’re here?…to be enchanted.”

by C A R A C OT H A M Then I realized that was my loaves and fish here. How could I not be totally enchanted by this scene…by The Chosen…by Jesus, always?

As I went back for another look, I watched the masses and the disciples. The masses are sitting at Jesus’ feet, hungry, broken, uncomfortable. But they have listened for three days, out in that field, and received such amazing spiritual food. They are absolutely enchanted.

The disciples feel responsible, feel they lack solutions. They “are worried and distracted by many things.”

Jesus understands. He understands us all. And He allows His students to fret and stew. When Little James finally comes to Him with concern, Jesus goes to the twelve without judgement or scorn. When Andrew brings the “not enough,” they get to experience what it feels like, yet again, to step into what God is doing and be enchanted. What an amazing scene to see and hear, to imagine, to apply.

I just can’t get over the looks on most of their faces as the disciples get to bring sustenance to these people they have been so worried about, after experiencing again that what He said is true…”My yoke is easy and My burden is light,” when we actually bring our burden to Him. And Jesus’ face is radiant as He watches the joy and enchantment all are feeling as they link their lives with Him.

Just think how days earlier, they were so at odds with each other and Him. There will be much more of that to come, but His love, justice, grace and wisdom in caring for us, never changes. It is disruptive and unfailing.

The music in this cue reminds me of the disruption that closed out S1 & S2, that prophetic “Trouble.” It’s a disruptive celebration! It’s perfection on so many levels. Let’s back track a little to where the music comes in…

Jesus: “Can you bring me anything?” Andrew: “What is this for so many?” John: “This is humiliating.”
